It was in 2015 that Noel and Ceu, having sold their software business a few years before, bought their first rental property in North East Edmonton, Alberta. Soon after that they added another four buildings, including one in Vernon, British Columbia, bringing it up to 10 units.
It wasn’t very long before they realized that trying to keep track of rents due and received, expenses, and maintenance tasks on a spreadsheet was just a non-starter. They looked around for a software tool that would do the job properly, but were unable to find something that would fit the bill.
The requirements were that it had to be easy to use, yet powerful enough for all the complex accounting and tracking tasks, scalable for multiple properties, and accessible online from wherever they were at the time. Producing the year-end reports had to be just a matter of clicking a button.
So, not finding something that would do the job, Noel decided to build one.
Since then the platform has evolved out of all recognition from its simple beginnings – with each change and improvement being prompted by their actual needs as landlords looking after real properties with real tenants. In use multiple times a week it has been honed and tweaked to perfection.
All along Noel & Ceu kept hearing of the challenges of other landlords struggling to keep their bookkeeping and other jobs under control. But they were reluctant to tell them about their purpose built system as it was not quite ready for others to try.
